The Windham County Sheriff's Department provided an initial investigator assigned to SUSI in 2008, following the State making available grant funds that support the salary of an investigator. The purpose of SUSI is to conduct investigations of sexual assaults and severe child abuse. This includes assisting local, county and state law enforcement agencies with these investigations. The State has found that specialized units such as this are more efficient in investigations of this nature, as our unit is afforded a narrow scope, direct access to a prosecutor, specialized training and equipment. These units also afford better care and support for victims of these crimes.
